Baby name data comes from National Records of Scotland, covering all registered births in Scotland from 1974 to 2024. The dataset includes 72,348 name-year records across 5,819 unique names.
methodology
Registrations per year shows how many babies were given each name in a given year. Names with fewer than 3 registrations in a year are excluded from the source data for privacy.
Living estimate sums all registrations from 1974 to 2024 as a rough approximation of how many people in Scotland have each name. This undercounts because it excludes people born before 1974 and doesn't account for immigration. It also slightly overcounts because it doesn't account for deaths or emigration.

Charts use teal for names registered as boy and amber for names registered as girl.
